Ocean Family Medicine is a family friendly surgery focused on providing superior health care to all ages.

Appointments:

Ocean Family Medicine operates an appointment system. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time with your doctor of choice.  A standard 15 minute appointment is generally sufficient to manage most health issues.  When making appointments for complex or multiple medical problems, insurance/employment medicals or procedures, please request a longer appointment time.  If in doubt please ask!

Several appointment spaces are left unfilled each day for patients requiring same day urgent reviews, walk-ins and sick children.

Reception staff will endeavour to contact you if your doctor is away for any unforeseen reason.  If you are unable to attend your appointment, we would appreciate you notifying us as soon as possible.

Important note: if you have a medical emergency, telephone 000 immediately for emergency services.

Home visits are performed for regular patients of the practice who are either too ill or otherwise unable to attend the surgery.

Whatever your preferred language, we can help you organise an interpreter to assist with any language barriers.  Ocean Family Medicine uses TIS national (Translating and Interpreting Service) - for more information click here.

Out of Hours Care:

Our after-hours medical services are covered by National Home Doctor Service on 137425.  Website: www.homedoctor.com.au

You can only make appointments from 6pm weekdays and from12 noon on Saturdays.

All patients with a Medicare Card or Gold DVA card are bulk billed.

 

Repeat prescriptions:

Repeat prescriptions, where possible, should be obtained during a consultation so the doctor can review the relevant medical condition.  However, if you have been seen recently and you require a repeat prescription, it may be completed by the doctor for a fee of $10.00.

Pathology results:

Due to patient confidentiality reasons and to ensure good clinical practice, pathology and radiology results will not be given over the phone. It is recommended that you book an appointment with your doctor to discuss your results. The practice will contact you if there is a clinically significant result.

 

Telephoning your Doctor:

You may contact your doctor by phone during surgery hours. If the doctor is attending another patient a message will be taken and your call will be returned when the doctor is available. Please advise the reception staff is your call is an emergency as it may be triaged by the practice nurse.

Fees and billing arrangements:

Ocean Family Medicine is a mixed billing practice.

All patients on a valid Concession Card (Pension, Commonwealth or Health Care Card), Veteran Affairs, full-time students (with a valid card) and children under 16 years old are bulk billed.

Private fees are as follows:

Private fees will be increasing effective 1st December 2018:

Appointment for less than 20 minutes is $76.50 increased to $78 ($37.60 rebate); appointment for more than 20 minutes but less than 40 minutes is $127.50 increased to $130 (rebate $72.80); appointment lasting more than 40 minutes is $153 increased to $155 (rebate $107.15). Ante-natal visit remains $56 ($37.60 rebate).

Specialist Allergy testing fees are as follows:

Skin sensitivity testing fee of $350 (with a Medicare rebate ranging from $111.75 - $146.10).  A deposit of $60 will be taken at the time of booking allergy testing appointments. This is a non-refundable deposit if the appointment is either not attended or cancelled with less than two working day's notice. The deposit will be used towards payment for the allergy testing appointment once it has been attended.

24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring: $50.

Fees are to be on the day, in full by cash, credit card or Eftpos and a claim made through Medicare.

Please discuss with the Practice Manager if you have any difficulty paying your fees.

Reminder system:

Ocean Family Medicine is committed to providing continuing care and preventative care. We operate a reminder system for preventative health services.  If you don’t want to partake in this reminder system, please advise the reception staff. Reminders will be sent via SMS text message - please let reception know if you wish to opt out from SMS text or click the 'opt out' link on the text message.

Management of personal health information:

This practice is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of your personal health information.  Your medical record is a confidential document.  It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff. The Practice has a documented Privacy Policy, which is available at reception if you would like a copy.  If you would like further information about privacy, or how to access your health record, please ask your doctor or practice staff. If you have any concerns or a complaint regarding the privacy of your personal health information held by the practice, please ask to speak to the Practice Manager. If we are unable to resolve a complaint regarding your privacy you need to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at http://www.oaic.gov.au. From time to time the practice will invite patients to complete questionnaires expressing your views on the practice and how we could improve.  These surveys help us to continually improve our services and are completely confidential.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2016 patient feedback survey conducted by CFEP Surveys- 97% of all patient ratings about the practice were good, very good or excellent.  We have listened to your feedback and are considering introducing on-line appointment bookings and SMS appointment reminders. Reception staff will continue to inform you promptly of any delays and please feel free to ring reception prior to your appointment to see if the doctor is running to time.
